- Heron Foods will be launching a gluten, wheat and dairy free
Batter Mix in the next month.
This is a product that you can use for making Pancakes, Yorkshire
Puddings and Batter for coating fish and chicken. It will be available
from the web site as well as a recipe.
- Heron Foods is involved with The University of Newcastle in
a project to determine whether children who fall within the Autistic
spectrum have a better quality of life by following a Gluten Free,
Casein Free diet. The first trial starts this month with 60 children
between the ages of 3 and 5yrs to see if they will accept a range
of food that gives them controlled amounts of gluten and or casein
in their diets, this trial will go on for one month. The main
trial will go ahead with 240 children and last for six months,
and should start towards the end of this year. We will publish
the results as and when the trial is finished and the results
are known.
The trial is funded by The Childrens Foundation of the United
Kingdom.
- Heron Foods have had to increase web prices for the first time
since beginning production in 2002. This is due to the Irish government
increasing the basic wage by 13%, the increase in transport costs
(we bring all our ingredients from southern Germany), and the
increase in many of our raw materials due to a poor harvest in
Europe and the escalation of the price of seeds and nuts.
